The New Canaan Society for the Arts presents –

The
PINK HOUSE
Painters

A Community of Artists
Passion ~ Inspiration ~ Support

June 4 – July 2, 2006

Opening Reception:  Sunday, June 4, 4-6 pm
It is one of the oldest traditions – for artists to come together to create and share, to reflect on each other’s work, to be inspired by another, even as one strives for originality, to communicate about one’s life and times – the personal and collective search.

Art and community – both are transcendent. To paint in the presence of others is to experience a unique bond and to originate a special kind of work.  Herein lies much of the secret of the Pink House Painters – diverse in age, experience, and work and from many locations.

Find here passion in abstraction, precision in watercolor, experimentation in oil – all media, many perspectives, very different works; all valid, a special joy and good times; a society of painters…”

      – The Pink House Painters

For 38 years artists have gravitated to the sunny Westport studio at Arlene Skutch’s 1876 farmhouse, which happens to be painted bright pink. Of the current 34 members, some have been aboard for many years and some are new to the group – and to painting. Arlene Skutch is their gentle mentor, guiding light, and most enthusiastic supporter. On given days, groups of 10 or so gather to paint, talk, laugh, and encourage one another in art and in life. Though most members exhibit their work individually, this exhibition is the first formal group show outside the Pink House. It is a celebration of their commitment to art and to each other.
