30th Annual JURIED PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION 2010 February 7 – March 7, 2010 This exhibition is open to all area photographers working in all photographic formats. Jurying is done from exhibition-ready work, NOT from slides/JPGs. See specifications and fee info below. A self-addressed stamped envelope is required for the jury card. Cash accepted. NO refund for work not accepted or exhibited. There is a 30% commission on sales. Receiving: MONDAY, January 25, 10:00am-1:00pm & 6:00-7:30pm Pick up for work NOT selected by juror: Saturday 1/30 11:00am-2:00pm; Sunday 1/31 1:00-4:00pm Monday 2/1 6:00-7:30pm Opening Reception: Sunday, February 7, 4:00-6:00pm (Awards presented at 5:00) Free and open to the public, refreshments Post-Show Pickup: Monday, March 8, 10am-1pm and 6:30–8pm (NCSA not liable for work left after this date) Specifications: • Open to all area photographers -- professional, amateur, and student, NCSA member or not. • LIMIT: two works per person. Work must be delivered by hand on the day/time specified. • DO NOT MAIL OR SHIP WORK. • All photographic formats and all subjects accepted. • Manipulated images are acceptable – whether done in a darkroom or digitally. • Original work only. Work must not have been exhibited previously at the Carriage Barn. • Optimal Size limits: 48” horizontal; 72” vertical. If you have larger work or special installation, please contact the Carriage Barn in advance. • Frames are strongly recommended to protect work during the jurying and installation process. Black or neutral colored frames (metal, wood or plastic) are suggested. Either Glass or Plexi is acceptable but note that “frameless” glass clip frames are discouraged because of breakage. Mats, if used, ideally should black, gray or white/ivory. ALL works MUST be securely wired and ready for hanging. Work that does not meet the specifications will not be accepted. ABOUT THE JUROR: Kristen Lubben, Associate Curator at the International Center of Photography, has been a member of the curatorial staff since 1998. In that time, she has curated numerous exhibitions, including Susan Meiselas: In History; Francesc Torres: Dark Is the Room Where We Sleep; Amelia Earhart: Image and Icon; El Salvador: Work of Thirty Photographers; Time of Change: Bruce Davidson, Civil Rights Photographs, 1961-65; and Dress Codes: The Third ICP Triennial of Photography and Video (with Vince Aletti, Carol Squiers, and Christopher Phillips). She is also the co-curator of Gerda Taro, which opened at ICP in 2007 and has since toured to the Barbican Centre, London; Forma, Milan; Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, Barcelona; Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam and Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. Ms. Lubben is the author and editor of numerous publications, including the catalogue to In History, which received the Either/Or Award (UK) for best photography book of 2009 and best historical photography book from Les Recontres d’Arles. Ms. Lubben received her BA in Art History and Women’s Studies from the University of California, Irvine, and completed graduate studies in the History of Art and Archaeology at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. For the good of your frames, please pick up as soon as possible. The exhibition will open with a public reception on Sunday February 7th from 4-6pm Awards for Color, B&W and Student works will be presented to prize winners at 5pm.
