1,000 Cranes
– Project for Hope
The origami crane has become an international symbol of peace and hope based in part on the Japanese legend that says folding 1,000 cranes will cause a wish for health or happiness to be fulfilled.

The New Canaan Society for the Arts will fold 1,000 cranes on behalf of the clients of the Center for Hope, a local non-profit organization that helps adults and children living with an illness, grieving a loss, and coping with the related trauma by providing professional counseling, education and support in an atmosphere of hope and renewal.  When completed, the 1,000 cranes will be given to the Center to display at its facilities.

The public is invited to participate in the project by folding a single crane, or many cranes, to help create a beautiful symbol of hope and peace for a place that offers hope to so many.  Information on how anyone – near or far – can participate in this project is available at the gallery or
