NCSA ANNUAL MEMBERS' SHOW
at the Carriage Barn Arts Center
September 10 – October 15, 2006

The Annual Members Exhibition brings together artists of all stripes - young and old, student, amateur and professional - in a show that reflects what is on the minds of NCSA member artists and invites the greater public to share a wealth of creativity.  The show is one manifestation of the mission of the New Canaan Society for the Arts (NCSA), the nonprofit organization that sponsors the Carriage Barn, to promote community interests through the participation in and appreciation of the visual arts.

All members – old and new alike - are encouraged to submit work to this open show and are guaranteed to be included. This exhibition, for which there is no entry fee and no ‘commission’ requested for sales, is a benefit of membership in NCSA.  There is no set theme and no stricture on medium or subject and consequently it is a wonderful cross section of the diverse styles and interests of this artistic community.  This year the exhibition will run for five weeks instead of four, to give members and patrons a little more time to enjoy the show.

With 140 artists participating, this is another record year for member turnout and the largest to date, at least in my memory.  The show comprises paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, mixed media pieces and sculptures – one piece by every artist who entered work (except sculptors who may have two works included to round out the complement of three dimensional work). To the other artists who brought two pieces, thank you for understanding that paring down the submissions and the choice between works makes all the difference for mounting an exhibition of this sort which, by its very nature, could be completely unwieldy.  The choice is not a criticism or rejection of the other piece submitted, but part an effort to put together an exhibition that is visually compelling.  It is always exciting to find synergy within an unpremeditated selection by artists working independently. This show juxtaposes different styles and media and highlights remarkable compatibilities among works by different artists.

Assembling the final exhibition is an unspoken collaboration between the exhibition team and the member artists and the result is a creative effort unto itself.  A considerable amount of work is put in over 5 days in order to present this show.  It would not happen without these dedicated volunteers:

Deborah Flavin
Stephanie Joyce
Leigh Leibel
Bill Moran
Erin Nazzaro
Dolores Santoliquido
Ellin Spadone
Pat Stewart

Special thanks go to new NCSA “staff” members
Sharon Cowley and Wendy Rizzi

Thanks to all for participating and supporting NCSA’s efforts.
