| Betty Barker Gallery JUNE INVITATIONAL:
The New York Society of Women Artists 80th Anniversary Exhibition 1925-2005 June 5 – July 2, 2005 Opening Reception: Sunday June 5th 3:00 – 5:00 pm The New Canaan Society for the Arts presents a group exhibition of paintings, drawings, mixed media, and sculpture by 23 current members of this juried group of artists from Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. It’s a privilege to welcome the New York Society of Women Artists back to the Carriage Barn to help celebrate an important milestone for a venerable organization. With bold color, dramatic composition, landscapes and figurative work, expressive realism and abstraction in a wide array of media, the show makes it clear that NYSWA is true to its cutting-edge roots, forging ahead and going strong at 80. The group first exhibited at the Carriage Barn in 1998 and several members return for the current exhibition together with several new artists. The NYSWA originally had 23 members and it seems a fitting coincidence that 23 of its current members are participating in its 80th anniversary exhibition. Local artists included in this exhibition are Maureen Renahan-Krinsley of New Canaan, Tina Rohrer and Renata Schwebel of Pound Ridge, Wendy Brest and Benice Horowitz of Stamford, Mireille Lemarchand of Greenwich, and Elise Black of Westport. -Cecelia Barnett, Curator Exhibiting Artists Barbara Arum Elise Black Wendy Brest Catchi Connie Cohen Dail Fried Sara Harris Tamar Hirschl Benice Horowitz Mireille Lemarchand harriet regina marion Shelley Parriott Ann Pellaton Olga Poloukhine Maureen Renahan-Krinsley Tina Rohrer Gerda Roze Gloria Scher Marianne Schnell Renata Schwebel Isabel Shaw Olga Sheirr Marcelle Swergold For more information and brief bios for ten of the exhibiting artists click here.
